Making Strides Walk

Greetings:

Every year it is estimated that 8,268 Ohio women and 4,590 Indiana women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an estimated 2,672 in both states combined will lose their lives to this horrible disease. These numbers are not acceptable.

I am encouraging UAW members into partnering with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, to help fight for prevention and a cure. By doing so, you not only help the American Cancer Society continue its mission of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays, but you have also show your commitment to help raise breast cancer awareness within our communities.

If you or a loved one have been impacted by any type of cancer the American Cancer Society is there for you, available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week by visiting cancer.org or calling 800-227-2345. By contacting the American Cancer Society you will be connected with the services that are offered to ease the burden during treatment, services such as transportation, lodging, insurance assistance, wigs, support and much more.

Every three- to five-mile Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite as, Sisters, Brothers, and community to honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about steps we can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society lead the fight against this disease with groundbreaking breast cancer research, information and support 24-7, and access to mammograms for women who need them. Every step you take is personal, and together we are helping to finish the fight against breast cancer.

Visit www.MakingStridesWalk.org/UAW and sign up your Local’s UAW team for the event closest to you, if you prefer to have a virtual team this also works and will count towards our National partnership with the UAW Women’s Department and the American Cancer Society!

In Solidarity,

Ken Lortz, Director
Region 2-B UAW
