2015/2016 Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Winners honored

Twelve outstanding high school seniors from Region 2-B UAW families have been awarded a $10,000.00 college scholarship by the Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Awards Program. The scholarships were presented Wednesday, May 18, 2016 by Ken Lortz, President of the Scholarship Awards Program at a luncheon held at the Region 2-B, UAW Building located in Maumee, Ohio.

The Gosser Scholarship Awards Program, named in honor of the late UAW Vice President and Regional Director, Richard T. Gosser was established in 1962.

This year, eight (8) Scholarships will be awarded in the name of Richard T. Gosser and one (1) Scholarship each will be awarded in the name of Ruthann Gosser-Harrison, Joseph Tomasi, Jack Sizemore and Lloyd Mahaffey.

Including the 2015-2016 winners, 310 students have received Gosser scholarships. An additional 113 students have received runner-up scholarships. In all, $2,344,000 in scholarships have been awarded since the program began in 1962.  This year's recipients are:

 Kristen Ann Fink, a senior at Rogers High School, Toledo, OH, who ranked 1 out of a class of 137 students. Her father, Jeffery Fink, is a member of UAW Local 12 and works at Chrysler Jeep, Toledo, OH.

 Anthony Michael David Paolucci, a senior at Rootstown High School, Rootstown, OH, who ranked 1 out of a class of 87 students. His father, Mickey Paolucci, is a member of UAW Local 573 and works at Cleveland PCD, Streetsboro, OH.

Tyler David Scott, a senior at Edison High School, Milan, OH, who ranked 10 out of a class of 117 students. His father, David Scott, is a member of UAW Local 1005 and works at MFD Parma, Parma, OH.

Briana Nicole Casanova, a senior at Margaretta High School, Castalia, OH, who ranked 2 out of a class of 80 students. Her father, Donald Casanova, is a member of UAW Local 2000 and works at Ohio Assembly, Avon Lake, OH.

Hannah Kay Kelly, a senior at Lake High School, Millbury, OH, who ranked 1 out of a class of 134 students. Her father, Michael Kelly, is a member of UAW Local 1435 and works at Toledo Machining, Perrysburg, OH. Her mother, Melissa Kelly, is a member of UAW Local 2213 and works at Mercy St. Vincent.

Emily Christene Duff, a senior at Tippecanoe High School, Tipp City, OH, who ranked 14 out of a class of 198 students. Her father, Ethan Duff, is a member of UAW Local 402 and works at Int'l. Truck & Engine, Springfield, OH.

Mitchell Aaron Best, a senior at Lakeview High School, Cortland, OH, who ranked 1 out of a class of 139 students. His mother, Marina Best, is a member of UAW Local 1714 and works at Lordstown Fabricating, Lordstown, OH.

Robert Thomas Daniels, a senior at Urbana High School, Urbana, OH, who ranked 20 out of a class of 115 students. His father, Thomas Daniels, is a member of UAW Local 402 and works at Int'l. Truck & Engine, Springfield, OH.

Gautam Sanjay Pathak, a senior at Perrysburg High School, Perrysburg, OH, who is not ranked. His father, Sanjay Pathak, is a member of UAW Local 1435 and works at Toledo Machining, Perrysburg, OH.

Sara Elizabeth Weigel, a senior at Turpin High School, Cincinnati, OH, who ranked 91 out of a class of 292 students. Her father, Rick Weigel, is a member of UAW Local 863 and works at Ford Sharonville, Cincinnati, OH.

Max Allen-Stoke Rice, a senior at Lincolnview Jr. & Sr. High School, Van Wert, OH, who ranked 5 out of a class of 65 students. His father, Greogry Rice, is a member of UAW Local 1765 and works at Dana, Lima, OH.

Chandler James Kelly, a senior at Ayersville High School, Defiance, OH, who ranked 6 out of a class of 76 students. His father, James Kelly, is a member of UAW Local 211 and works at GM Global Propulsion System, Defiance, OH.

The Alternates will receive $1,500.00 Scholarships sponsored by the Region 2-B, UAW Retired Workers. The following have been chosen by the Selection Committee: 1) Allison Wurth; 2) Eric Harris (Local 863) 3) Kelsey Rike (Local 933, Rolls Royce); 4) Tucker Stocker (Local 14, GM) 5) Katherine Cooper (Local 863) and 6) Garrett McGinty (Local 1112).

The deadline to apply for the 2016-2017 scholarships is postmarked by October 15, 2016. This is a firm deadline, no exceptions.
