Region 2-B

Messages From Region 2-B Director, Ken Lortz

On January 24, 2017 Union and Community activists in Southwest Ohio gathered at UAW Local 863 Hall, prior to attending the West Chester Township Trustee meeting, where TeaParty Township Trustees George Lang and Mark Welch were pushing Right to Work is Wrong (RTWIW) in the Township.

To: Region 2-B, UAW Local Union Presidents, Chairpersons, CAP Chairs and Retired Workers Chairs

Greetings:

It is my pleasure to share the outstanding achievement Region 2-B has reached with the March of Dimes. In the 2016 March for Babies season, Region 2-B membership raised nearly $234,000! Nationally, the UAW raised nearly $800,000 and our Region raised 29% of that total! Thankfully, considerable progress has been made in improving the care of premature infants after birth, but premature birth is still the #1 killer of babies.

Your continued support and commitment will allow the March of Dimes to continue to fight the causes of premature birth by funding lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at preventing premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. I thank you all for the funds you have raised to fight premature birth that have helped to ensure every baby is born healthy.

Dear fellow Brothers and Sisters:

As members of organized labor, we know how important it is for each of us to do our part to make our community a great place to live and work. That’s why the UAW region 2B is a proud partner and supporter of United Way.

Even in times of economic distress, our members have joined forces with others to advance the common good. As a result, we are making great strides in strengthening our communities. United Way also shares a common vision with us and is working to improve education, income, and health—the building blocks of a good life. Together, we are ensuring union members, their families, and communities, have access to essential services like food and shelter.

Each year on Veterans Day, we pay tribute to the Women and Men who currently serve and who have served our Country. This day belongs to our Veterans and their families! They deserve our thanks on Veterans' Day and every day of the year.

Ordinary people who responded in extraordinary ways. Women and Men who rose to the Nation's call to protect a Nation that has given us so much. They have and continue to defend our freedoms and way of life. Without our Veterans, we would not be the "Land of the Free".

For some time now, we have been monitoring the extremist's Right to Work is Wrong activity in Ohio and I have been asking you to be ready when we call you to action. On August 21, 2015, we called- and you answered!  The level of participation and commitment of Region 2-B was not surprising and exceeded the expectations of many.  Region 2-B was the best represented Labor Union at the rally, our numbers exceeded every other Labor Union.  Your readiness to organize and jump to action was second to none.  For that I extend my deepest gratitude and sincere thanks.  I was proud to stand with you and send a clear message that we will not tolerate Right to Work is Wrong, or any other anti-union, anti worker effort.  Read more >>>

Every year it is estimated that 8,268 Ohio women and 4,590 Indiana women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an estimated 2,672 in both states combined will lose their lives to this horrible disease. These numbers are not acceptable. Read more >>>

In President Kennedy's January 20, 1961 Inaugural Address, he said, "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." Our Veterans have paid that price, bore that burden, and met that hardship. Read more >>>

Over the past few months, people from all over the country have been talking about how their lives have been touched by health care reform.
Today, we'd like to share one of the stories that moved us.

Renee is a mother of three young children who was blindsided by cancer. She was rejected from her husband's health insurance, and several other private plans, because of a pre-existing condition -- leaving her stuck with a plan that had a yearly limit and additional stress that the care she needed might not be covered.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Renee now has the coverage she needs.

You have to hear Renee tell her story -- then, pass it on to show others exactly why health care reform matters.
