CAP Council Chairpersons in Region 2-B, UAW

Greetings:

Region 2-B, UAW Leadership meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Sawmill Creek Resort, 400 Sawmill Creek, Huron, OH 44839.

I encourage all Local Union Presidents, Bargaining Unit Chairpersons, and CAP Council Chairpersons to attend this meeting. In the event those officers are unable to attend, a designee will be welcome.

Registration will be held on Tuesday, May 16 from 1:15 p.m.-2:00 p.m. and the meeting will convene at 2:00 p.m. There will be a CAP Appreciation Hospitality Event from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Greetings:

The 2017 International UAW Women’s Conference will be held at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center, August 6 through 11, 2017. Attendance is limited to delegates.

Registration of delegates will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lecture Hall.

The Conference will convene on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 5 p.m. in the Lecture Hall and conclude on Friday morning, August 11, 2017.

The Local Unions are responsible for lost time and registration fees.

Registration checks or money orders should be returned to the Region 2-B Office in the amount of $625, payable to the International Union, UAW.

The 30th Annual International UAW Chaplaincy Conference will be held at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center, June 4-9, 2017.

The 30th UAW Chaplaincy Conference is a major milestone!!! We are asking all locals to support this Conference by sending an additional number of delegates than previously sent to Chaplaincy Conferences. Those that attend will experience great workshops, fellowship and networking. They will return back to thier locals with additional resources that will allow them to better serve the people and leadership at their locals, work locations and communities.

TO: Local Union Presidents, Recording Secretaries and Unit Chairpersons in Region 2-B, UAW

Enclosed is the 2017 Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Scholarship Application. You may make additional copies as needed. This year only one (1) week session of July 23 - 28, 2017 is being offered, as indicated on the application, beginning on Sunday evening and ending on Friday morning.

All active or laid off UAW members in good standing are eligible if you have never attended the program before. You must also be willing to use your regular vacation, personal leave or union leave time (where permitted by contract) to attend. Past participants of Family Scholarship are not eligible to attend.

Your spouse and children/grandchildren 4-18 years old may attend with you. You may be required to provide a birth certificate or proof of legal guardianship for each attending child. Children under 4 years old cannot be accommodated and other relatives, non-relatives and retirees are not eligible to participate – no exceptions!

Please be aware that only cars built by union members in North America may park on Education Center property. Vehicles with VIN numbers starting with #1, #2, #4 or #5 are permitted to park in the lot. All others must park outside the main gate and a bus will transport you to the Center registration desk.

Your Local may submit as many applications as you like, allocation of space will be on a first come, first serve basis - one application per Local initially. Once our Regional allocation is filled, remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list. If additional space becomes available for our Region, applicants on the waiting list will be contacted and offered the opportunity to attend the program.

Greetings:

The 2017 UAW Health and Safety Conference will be held at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center at Black Lake in Onaway, Michigan from Sunday, March 19 through Friday, March 24, 2017. Delegates driving to the Center should plan on arriving between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017. The Conference will start promptly at 5:00 p.m. Sunday in the Main Lecture Hall. All delegates are expected to attend.

This Conference will provide significant education and training needed by Health & Safety Representatives, Health & Safety Committee members and Local Union Representatives that have health and safety responsibilities. Several new sessions will be offered this year including:

• Aerial Lift Safety
• Emergency Preparedness and Incident Command with a Table Top Exercise
• “NEW” Curriculum on Rigging Safety
• 40 Hour Practical Ergonomics Trainings

All delegates completing the program will receive a UAW 2017 Health & Safety award certificate from the International UAW Health & Safety Department showing completion of the courses. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will also be available through Eastern Michigan University.

Dear Local Union Presidents:

The 46th International Convention of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) will convene on Thursday, May 25, 2017, and will continue through Monday, May 29, 2017, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The theme for this year’s CBTU Convention is “Organizing for Change – Building Our Future.” The convention headquarter hotel is the New Orleans Hilton Riverside.

Please check the CBTU website (www.cbtu.org) for additional information on the Convention program schedule and to download registration material.

In order to take full advantage of all the activities at the Convention, we recommend a Wednesday, May 24 arrival in New Orleans.
