2017/2018 Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Winners

Twelve outstanding high school seniors from Region 2-B UAW families have been awarded a $10,000.00 college scholarship by the Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Awards Program.  The scholarships will be presented Wednesday, May 9, 2018 by Ken Lortz, President of the Scholarship Awards Program at a luncheon to be held at the Region 2-B, UAW Regional Building located at 1691 Woodlands Drive, Maumee, Ohio (Arrowhead Park) at Noon.

The Gosser Scholarship Awards Program, named in honor of the late UAW Vice President and Regional Director, Richard T. Gosser was established in 1962.

This year, eight (8) Scholarships will be awarded in the name of Richard T. Gosser and one (1) Scholarship each will be awarded in the name of Ruthann Gosser-Harrison, Joseph Tomasi, Jack Sizemore and Lloyd Mahaffey.

Including the 2017-2018 winners, 344 students have received Gosser scholarships.  An additional 125 students have received runner-up scholarships.  In all, $2,602,000 in scholarships have been awarded since the program began in 1962. 

The 2017-2018 Scholarship Winners are: 

Allison Nicole Bennett, a senior at Midview High School, Grafton, OH, who ranked 7 out of a class of 257 students.  Her father, Clarence Herbert Bennett, Jr., is a member of UAW Local 2000 and works at Ohio Assembly, Avon Lake, OH.

 

Carmel Rose Cerimele, a senior at Canfield High School, Canfield, OH, who ranked 10 out of a class of 257 students.  Her father, Thomas Cerimele, is a member of UAW Local 1112 and works at Lordstown Assembly, Warren, OH.

 

 

Ella Brianne Brinkman, a senior at Western Brown High School, Mt. Orab, OH, who ranked 3 out of a class of 248 students.  Her father, Chad Brinkman, is a member of UAW Local 2308 and works at MillerCoors, Trenton, OH.

 

Rachel Ann Hunt, a senior at Shawnee High School, Lima, OH, who ranked 1 out of a class of 210 students.  Her father, Richard Hunt, is a member of UAW Local 2075 and works at General Dynamics, Lima, OH.

 

Alisa Anne Mancini, a senior at Girard High School, Girard, OH, who ranked 1 out of a class of 140 students.  Her father, Franko Mancini, is a member of UAW Local 1112 and works at Lordstown Assembly, Warren, OH.

 

Justin Ryan Mendoza, a senior at Whitmer High School, Toledo, OH, who ranked 7 out of a class of 466 students.  His father, Ryan Mendoza, is a member of UAW Local 12 and works at Adient, Northwood, OH.

 

Kayla Elizabeth Keckler, a senior at Findlay High School, Findlay, OH, who ranked 6 out of a class of 353 students.  Her father, Matthew Keckler, is a member of UAW Local 2075 and works at General Dynamics Joint Systems, Lima, OH.

 

Alliyan Tan Nou, a senior at Carmel High School, Carmel, IN, and the school does not rank. Her father, Vanna Nou, is a member of UAW Local 1302 and works at Chrysler Kokomo Transmission, Kokomo, IN.

 

Kayanna Amber Turner, a senior at Tri Junior Senior High School, Straughn, IN, who ranked 1 out of a class of 68 students. Her father, Freddie Turner, is a member of UAW Local 933 and works at Allison Transmission, Indianapolis, IN.

 

Julia Marie Tharp, a senior at Northwestern High School, Kokomo, IN, who ranked 4 out of a class of 117 students.  Her father, Chad Tharp, is a member of UAW Local 1302 and works at Chrysler Kokomo Casting, Kokomo, IN.

 

Alex Jeffrey Osborn, is a senior at Huntington North High School, Huntington, IN, who ranked 7 out of a class of 353 students. His father, Jeffrey Osborn, is a member of UAW Local 1302 and works at Chrysler Kokomo Transmission, Kokomo, IN.

 

Aaron James Lee, is a senior at Oak Harbor High School, Oak Harbor, OH, who ranked 14 out of a class of 131 students. His stepdad, William Young, is a member of UAW Local 14 and works at GM Powertrain, Toledo, OH.

 

The Alternates will receive $1,500.00 Scholarships sponsored by the Region 2-B, UAW Retired Workers.
