UAW Brings Community Together for Lorain Officers: Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Raises Over $12,000

Amherst, OH – August 16, 2025
In a moving show of solidarity and compassion, the UAW Local 2000 Community Service Committee, in partnership with the Amherst Junior ROTC and a dedicated group of volunteers, hosted a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Amherst VFW on August 16th. The event was held to benefit the three Lorain police officers who were ambushed and shot in the line of duty, as well as their families.
The community responded with overwhelming generosity. The event raised an impressive $12,100.00, which will be donated to the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) for distribution to the officers and their families.
UAW Local 2000 represents workers from several key automotive facilities in the region, including Ford Motor Company’s Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake and other affiliated supplier locations. Members from these worksites played a vital role in organizing, donating, and volunteering their time to ensure the event’s success.
“This was more than just a fundraiser—it was a heartfelt expression of support for our local heroes,” said a representative from the UAW Local 2000 Community Service Committee. “We are proud of our members and grateful to everyone who came out to support this cause.”
The Amherst Junior ROTC cadets were instrumental in the evening’s operations, assisting with setup, serving meals, and cleanup. Volunteers from across Lorain County contributed food, time, and resources, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose.
As the community continues to stand behind the officers and their families, this event serves as a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause.
Thank you to all who gave, served, and stood together.
