MAJOR LAWS AFFECTING WORKING PEOPLE

Whether you are a union member or not, a number of major federal laws regulate the workplace and protect your basic employee rights.  Union members have the advantage of being able to negotiate for better protections than the law provides.

All of these laws are on the books today because organized labor union members worked tirelessly to persuade their elected representatives to support these necessary protections. That’s just one way union members help improve working conditions for themselves and all American workers.

But today these laws are under attack by special interests who choose workplace deregulation over worker protection. There is no starker example of the direct connection between the breadbox and the ballot box.

That’s why we UAW members – with our family and friends – engage actively in our political process. When we elect representatives who advance our interests, we win for ourselves and all workers.
