The mission of UAW Region 2B Veteran's Advisory Council is to speak and represent the interest of all active and retired UAW members who are veterans of the military and their families.

UAW members from all over the country attended this annual conference and were joined by UAW Region 2B Director Wayne Blanchard (U.S. Army).

Veterans suffer from mesothelioma at higher rates than most other demographic groups. Nearly a third of mesothelioma cases diagnosed are in military veterans and as we all work together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, mesothelioma patients are among those at higher risk of severe illness because of their weakened respiratory system.

Both leaves can be taken on a continuous or intermittent (reduced schedule basis).

In all cases, the leaves are unpaid and count against the long-standing FMLA entitlements.

Military Care-Giver Leave - entitles an eligible employee who is the spouse, son, daughter, parent, or next of kin of a “covered servicemember” to take up to 26 workweeks of FMLA leave in a single 12-month period to care for a “covered servicemember” with a “serious injury or illness”.
